9/11 - Chemicals and chaos

Today in chemicals and chaos we had to choose a terrific event that has happened in the past. I chose to research about the 9/11 that had happened on September 11 2001, this event was the worst that had ever happened. So many people had died and apparently, no one survived that was in the building or planes.

The day was a normal day and everyone was fine then a plane got hijacked and hit the big twin building then 20 min later the small twin building got hit. In the video that I watched there were voicemails of people saying goodbye to their loved ones and say that they loved them. That day was the worst day.

Digestive system - inside and out

In science, we have been working on the digestive system last week. We had to make a DLO of the digestive system, in the DLO we had to put each of part of the digestive system, then we had to explain what they do and how they help our body to stay alive. We were allowed to go in pairs  so I went with someone in my class here is the DLO we had made:

Asking questions

Why we ask questions in reading?
So the reason why we ask questions in reading is so that we can know that you can understand the story and that you can explain the story in your own words.

So for example you had to read a book for a test that you are doing. You get called up by your teacher and he/she will ask you multiple questions. If you get most right they know that you can understand the story and can write it in your own words.

It would best be good for when you have to buddy with someone and ask them questions about the story. IT can help you for asking questions so that they can answer them then they would understand the story. If you don't know what to ask your in luck.

So if you don't have any idea on what to ask here is 4 things that will help you:

Key points

Benny
This week we had to do another key point but with a different story, also we had to put the key points in a sentence. So I did a DLO with google drawing. So here is what I did.

  • Benny is a slow learner
  • The narrator is a fast learner
  • Benny and the narrator were friends
  • People thought that Benny was stupid
  • Benny is tall and muscley
  • Benny is bigger and more sporty than the narrator
  • Eastbourne is Benny and the narrator's favourite place to hang in summer
  • During summer Benny and the narrator liked making kids flip off their kayaks
  • Then one day something changed
  • The boy almost drowned
  • The mother was very mad
  • Benny got upset
  • After the incident, Benny went to a different school and the narrator misses him

Key points

Hey, guys welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we are learning about key points, key points are when you write down the most important part of the story/text.  I'm going to show you what I had written for the key points.

Key points:

  • The story is about Bulmer Cavern is like and how they discovered the mystery stream the flows through the mountain
  • It is non-fiction
  • They were in Bulmer cavern (the belly of mount cavern)
  • You can only take photos while you're in the cave
  •  Bulmer Cavern was discovered in 1984
  • They were in the cave for 5 days
  • The water travels from Bulmer cavern to Blue creek
  • They talked about moon milk which is a type of substances that form in limestone caves.
  • They were doing an experiment of the streams in the cave
  • There was a theory that water flows through the Blue creek
  • It also tells us what cavers do if bad weather hits
  • They are from Nelson
  • Their names are Marcus and Neil
  • The part of the story the text was telling us about what Bulmer Cavern was like
  • 10 days later from Bulmer cavern to Blue creek the food dye showed but it was a bit faint
  • It tells us about what happens after the cavers come out
Well, that's all that I have for you and as I had said before this was very interesting so you should read it and if you ever think of doing caving read this story cause this will help you.

Making connections

This term in reading we are learning how to make a connection to the story. Making a connection is when you are connecting to the story/text. I can explain what makes a connection with three parts.

1. Text to self

This is when we connect the text/story to your own experiences. For example " This part makes me feel when I lost that necklace my nan gave me. I know what it feels like when you lose something precious."

What the reader is doing is they are relating to the story on how they felt when they had lost something.

2. Text to world

This is when we connect what we are reading to things that that really happen in the outside world. For example " The boy in this story is running for school president. He is promising to organize lots of fun activities for students at lunchtime. This reminds of how politicians try to influence people to vote for them."

What the reader is doing is reading the text and then relating it to what happens in real life.

3. Text to text
Text to text is when we compare the text we are reading to other similar text. These texts could be books or visuals texts such as a movie or a tv programme. For example "This character reminds me of Harry Potter. They are both boys who were orphans and got brought up by an aunt and uncle who were mean to them."

What the reader is doing is they are reading the text and then relating it to a character from a movie that they had watched.

This can help you more about how to know more about
making connections:

Last Week Self-Assessment

This blog is based on my self-assessment test for last week. There are several questions that Mr Mitchell had put on the site that I have to answer.

1. Did I complete all last week task?
Yes I did here is a drawing of mam and under that the questions Lyan had given me to answer:
2. What did I do well?
I think my questions and my drawing of mam was my best work also my blog about what visualisation means.

3. Which activity challenged me the most?
The one that challenged me the most was the questions cause Lyan had given me had questions.

4. What did I do about?
With the questions, I didn't understand I had asked Lyan and with the questions about the book I had skim read the book.

5. Which activity was the easiest for me?
The one that was easy for me was drawing mam cause I knew what I had visualised.

6. How can I extend myself next time?
I can be more organised and more focused on my work so then when I do the question I won't have to ask my partner.

Visualisation

This week in reading we had to listen and visualise what the story was about. Now if you don't know what visualise means we will start with visualisation. Visualisation is when you will listen to a story or a text and picture it in your head. Then you would sometimes draw it in your head so you can think that is what you had in your head. Now you know what visualisation means or visuals means now we can get back to what I had learned.

In reading, we had to again visualise what the story would look like. Mr Mitchell had us to close our eyes and listen to the story he was reading, the story was based on a teacher and everything about her and what her student thought about her. Then after he read the story we had to grab our reading book and draw what we had visualised in our head. After we had drawn we had to put it down on the floor near the whiteboard then everyone would look at it and decide what drawing exactly showed what the story had explained.

You might be wondering what my drawing looks like.

Richard Owens

Richard Owens
In Rimu for reading my group is learning and knowing about Richard Owens. The teachers have made a assessment test for how much we know of what we have read. I had to make a Google drawing of  a job advertisement and put down things about him and what he wants in someone for him to help with work. Here is the Google drawing that I have been working on.

Hopefully you like this and that you understand what he is like and what he wants in someone to help him at work.
See ya guys later.

Learning Styles

Learning Styles

Rimu class has been doing this assessment thing called Learning Styles. You might wonder what it is well it is a test that will ask you things that you would do to help you do your work. What you do is you tick the ones that are more like you, the ones that are not like you is to not tick them you could do much of ticks as you want.
In this site Miss Waho has gave us this self assessment thing where we have the most strongest thing. Here is a photo of my results.
Here is the results as you can see that my strongest one is the Intrapersonal, if you do not know what it means well here is a screenshot of what it means.
Hope this tells you what I am talking about. Here are some images that might pump your ideas.
See you
