Solar Energy

Solar Energy

Aim: To learn about how solar energy is used.

Hypothesis: I think that black will stand out the most.  The explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

Materials:

  1.  Heat lamp
  2.  Thermotre
  3.  3 cups (2 white cups and clear cup)
  4.  Black plastic bag
  5.  Paper (white)
  6. Tinfoil (2 pieces)

Steps

  1.   Grab the heat lamp and plug it in
  2.  Put the black plastic bag, white paper and tinfoil and lay them out into a line
  3.  Put the white cup on the white paper, wrap the tinfoil around the white cup put on top of the tinfoil  and then put the clear cup in the black bag on top of the black bag
  4.  Put the heat lamp directly at the cups
  5.   After every 15 min put the thermometer in each cups, have them in for 1 min each
  6. Then record them on the chart

Findings:

Cookies

Hey, guys so this week in home economics we got to make chocolate chip cookies. So we had prepared the dough on Tuesday then on Friday we go them prepared for the oven. My partner was Alliah.

When we had weighed the dough on Friday it was 404g. Then we had to do maths, what we had to do was get 404 and then divided it by 12 so we got 33g but our teacher told us to weigh each cookie as 34g. So we had divided the dough evenly then made sure they all weighed the same. We had to make 12 cookies so that is why we had to divide 404g by 12.

Then we put the cookies on the tray that had a cooking paper on than we used a fork and pressed down on them so they wouldn't roll off. The cookie that was the right amount we had to make a cross with the fork so we would know that it was the one that was perfect.

While the cookies were cooking Alliah and I started cleaning up so when the cookies were done we just had to wash the tray. We knew that the cookies were done because they were spread out and was golden. Once they were cooled Alliah went to measure the cookie to see if they weight had gone down and it did. The weight was 32g so it went down 2g.

They turned out so well and had tasted so delicious. The chocolate chips were melted when I tried it and it was soo good. Here they are:
Now because they are soo good I'm gonna go and have it with milk. Bye guys.

Drama

This week in drama we had to learn why we have to eat healthily and how it affects us and what junk food does to us. To learn this Mr Tisch sent us a doc and we had to fill in the gaps. We also had to make puppets so we could film a video with them then share it to the class. We had to work in our normal form class so 1 class would do the puppets and then the other class would do the worksheet for the Hauora health. I learned that healthy eating is really good for you and if you constantly keep eating junk food you would be overweight and would get very sick. Here is what I wrote about Hauora:

So here is my puppet that I had made:
We had to use paper bags, paper and colouring pens. I had traced the face, the wing and the tails then I folded the paper so it wouldn't make the dragon big and then glued the face,  the wing and the tail. I added some colours to make it nice.

For the show I'm with Lily and Maia, so what we are doing is eating healthy. The story is to eat healthily.

NYLD

On the 30th of May, I and a few other students from the year 7 & 8 classes were chosen from Miss Tozer to go to Horncastle arena for NYLD (National Young Leaders Day). This was a thing every year where students from all the schools in Ōtautahi and they teach kids how to be a real leader and they have special guests that teaches you how to be a true leader and how they think being leader means. We had lots of fun and Miss Tozer and the other people in our group has taken photos of the day. Here is a slide where there are Photos and video from the day. Here is the photos of the day;

Here is when we had first arrived

Relationships and Patterns

Hey guys, so in maths, we have gone back to being in groups and working on different things so here is my DLO of what we did this week.

The green house effect

The Greenhouse Effect experiment

Materials

  1. 1 plastic bottle
  2. 1 teaspoon baking soda and citric acid
  3. 1 heat lamp
  4. 2 thermometer
  5. 100ml water
  6. 1 rubber bung

Procedure

  1. Collect 2 bottles, 2 bottles, 2 lamps and 2 thermometers from the teacher
  2. Set up bottles and lamps beside a powerpoint on a flat surface
  3. Pour 100ml water and Baking soda mixture into one of the bottles. Add just water to the second bottle
  4. Start to record your findings taken from both thermometers. These must be every 5 minutes

Findings: The Greenhouse Effect Data

Minutes
Bottle 1: Water
Bottle 2: CO2 Gas
018C18C
520C24C
1022C24C
1522C25C
2023C27C
2525C29C

Conclusion:
The temperature of the CO2 bottle goes higher than the normal bottle. This showed that CO2 heats up our atmosphere very fast.

Water cycle experiment

Hey everyone today for science we had to do procedural writing for our water cycle experiment. First, we did a draft of the work then we email it to a buddy so they could give us feedback of it. Then we had to fix it up in our final writing. Then they would rate us on our final writing. So here is my procedural writing:

Draft:
Title: Water cycle experiment

Purpose: How water cycle normally works and how the water cycle works when CO2

Materials:
  • 50ml Water (each bag)
  • Blue food colouring
  • 2x  bag
  • Vivid pen
  • Soda water
  • Litmus paper
  • Baking soda

Procedures:
Experiment A

  1. With the vivid draw clouds, trees, land, rain and mountains on the plastic bag
  2. Name each step of the water cycle
  3. Then add water (50ml)
  4. Add 2 drops of the blue food colouring in the water
  5. Tape it to a window so the sun is shining through it Experiment B
    1. With the vivid draw clouds, trees, land, rain and mountains on the plastic bag
    2. Name each step of the water cycle
    3. Add sparkling water (50ml)
    4. Add baking soda (1 teaspoon)
    5. Then add 2 drops of food colouring in the water
    6. At the middle of the plastic ziplock, it locks put a strip of litmus paper in the middle and zip.
    7. Tape the plastic bag on the window
    8. There we have a water cycle with CO2 added (carbon dioxide)

Conclusion: This experiment was to tell us more about how the water cycle works. The first one showed us how the water cycle normally worked and the second one was when CO2 was added.
