Making connections

This term in reading we are learning how to make a connection to the story. Making a connection is when you are connecting to the story/text. I can explain what makes a connection with three parts.

1. Text to self

This is when we connect the text/story to your own experiences. For example " This part makes me feel when I lost that necklace my nan gave me. I know what it feels like when you lose something precious."

What the reader is doing is they are relating to the story on how they felt when they had lost something.

2. Text to world

This is when we connect what we are reading to things that that really happen in the outside world. For example " The boy in this story is running for school president. He is promising to organize lots of fun activities for students at lunchtime. This reminds of how politicians try to influence people to vote for them."

What the reader is doing is reading the text and then relating it to what happens in real life.

3. Text to text
Text to text is when we compare the text we are reading to other similar text. These texts could be books or visuals texts such as a movie or a tv programme. For example "This character reminds me of Harry Potter. They are both boys who were orphans and got brought up by an aunt and uncle who were mean to them."

What the reader is doing is they are reading the text and then relating it to a character from a movie that they had watched.

This can help you more about how to know more about
making connections:
